What was one of the highlights of Maison et Objet 2018? Well, one of the main head features of the event was Tom Dixon! This famous British designer Tom Dixon launched at Maison et Objet a new collection of textiles that explores weaving, knitting, knotting and digital printing techniques. Let’s take a look at them!
This stunning new collection it’s comprised of an array of cushions and throws. Entitled the Super Texture Collection, these textile product family encompass three new product families and updates to two existing ranges.
The new products include a pair of thick, woolly cushions that feature bold blocks of saturated colour, a set of digitally printed cushions featuring abstract urban landscapes, and a family of cushions and throws embroidered with geology-inspired illustrations.
We highlight, for instance, the thick and woolly Abstract Cushions that are purely are made by craftsmen in Varanasi, Northern India. This product fully represents the Textile Craftsman Art.
They are made using a hand-tufting technique which is ordinarily used to make rugs. The result is a pair of hardwearing, shaggy cushions featuring bold blocks of colour.
The very own Tom Dixon said that the inspiration behind the deep pile cushions included urban perspective sketches and hippy wall hangings from the 1970’s. The combination of the 70’s style and the Indian Art produced a stunning final result.
We can also highlight the cushions that are part of the Geo Family, which are embroidered with geology-inspired illustrations. These products recall rock formations and layered sediment. The bold patterns are embroidered onto two white cushions and a double-sided throw using black thread. They will look amazing in any modern living room!
But Tom Dixon launched more than Textiles at Maison et Objet 2018, although the Textile Collections were his biggest launch! Dixon also debuted a series of spherical glass pendant lamps by Sebastian Herkner for German brand Pulpo, as well as a martial arts-inspired table and chair set by AC/AL Studio for Petite Friture. These two sets fully represent the classic style of Dixon and are purely amazing!
