Tom Dixon is a self-taught British designer who specializes in lighting, furniture and accessory design for his self-titled brand. Being famous all around the world, Dixon was born in Tunisia in 1959. He grew up in London and as an art school drop-out, with no technical training, he taught himself how to become a designer in the early 1980’s after discovering welding whilst trying to repair his motorbike. The latest chapter of Tom’s design journey began in 2002 when he left corporate life to create his own eponymous brand as a platform for a series of new adventures in the design of products and interiors. 15 years on, Tom Dixon is now a widely celebrated global force in interior design with our own hubs in New York, Hong Kong, London, Los Angeles and Tokyo. Our 600 products range from lighting to furniture, from tableware through to fragrance and are distributed in over 65 countries; they are instantly recognisable for their sculptural qualities and engineered materiality.

Tom Dixon as a brand was established in 2002 with a commitment to innovation and a mission to revive the British furniture industry. In 2007 Dixon launched Design Research Studio, an interior and architectural design studio. The brand is inspired by the British nation’s unique heritage and produces extraordinary objects for everyday use Some of Tom’s masterpieces have been acquired by several museums across the globe including the Victoria and Albert Museum, Museum of Modern Art New York and Centre Georges Pompidou, in Paris.

Royal Academy London, UK

 

 

The Tom Dixon brand includes an Interior Design subsidiary, Design Research Studio, which designed the Shoreditch House for the Soho House Group and the Joseph flagship store on Old Bond-street, a restaurant at The Royal Academy, London, a Tazmania Ballroom, a pool bar in the Central district of Hong Kong, The Tom Dixon Sandwich cafe at Harrods in London, and Jamie Oliver’s new restaurant, Barbecoa. Most recently Design Research Studio won their first-ever hotel project, redesigning the iconic Thames-side Sea Containers House in collaboration with the U.S. hotel giant Morgan’s Hotel Group – Mondrian Hotel London.
