Marcel Wanders was born in Boxtel, Netherlands in 1963. He graduated from Hogeschool voor de Kunstens in Arnhem in 1988 after being expelled from Eindhoven Design Academy. In 1995 he opened his first studio in the capital, Amsterdam, catching the eyes of the world in 1996 for his iconic and unique Knotted Chair, this top furniture paired high tech materials with low tech production methods.

Actually, Marcel’s powerhouse studio has 50 international design specialists, and he, as an interior designer and art director, has over 1700+ projects with his name for private clients and powerhouses such Alessi, Swarovski, and Puma.
Marcel’s vision is to bring the human touch back to design. In his concept, Marcel prefer to focus on holistic solutions rather than the technocratic. In Marcel’s universe, his pieces have poetry, fantasy, and romance that are brought to life by the contemporary moment.
Wander believes that design will grow to be a force that moves its audience in unknown. Design, for him, is a wonderfully direct instrument, because it connects to daily life
Most of the designer’s projects have been selected for design collections in the world, like the Museums of Modern Art in New York and San Francisco, Amsterdam’s Stedelijk and Rotterdam’s Boijmans van Beuningen.
His most iconic project was Andaz Amsterdam, a sophisticated hotel that has the relaxed nature of the people and the city in which it lives. Located in the center of Amsterdam, this hotel is a space that will accommodate visitors to the city, with the reason to be the connection between people.
The Mondrian South Beach is also one iconic project of Marcel. Situated at Biscayne Bay in Miami Beach, this project is also known as the Sleeping Beauty’s Castle in a true modern fantasy. Glamourous and dramatic living spaces are accompanied by original bespoke pieces, such as curved chairs, milled tables, vine cabanas and floating staircase, Marcel’s signature.
Marcel is an admired product designer and one of the top interior designers with a reason. His work may excite or provoke people, but he creates all of his projects with an environment of love, passion, and fantasy.
