The stylish apartment in Manhattan owned by the 35-year-old Ivanka Trump always made a statement in best interior design magazines. The daughter of the President of United States worked alongside the interior designer Kelly Behun to redecorate the apartment into a stylish abode for her young family.
In 2011, the businesswoman paid US$16m for the Upper East Side apartment, at Trump Park Avenue. It features stunning panoramic views of the city thru the floor-to-ceiling windows. The four-bedroom home is shared with Ivanka’s husband Jared Kushner, a real estate developer, and their three children: Arabella, Joseph and the baby Theodore.
For the 390 sqm apartment, Kelly Behun tried to balance the traditional and feminine feeling of Trump’s with the modern style of her husband. The challenge was to bring a modern warm environment, so the the option was a relaxed color palette of grays, taupes, and creams.
The interior designer explained “Contemporary angles swathed in soothing shades, starting with the foyer and its silver-leaf wallpaper, painted with a botanical mural.”
Bespoke pieces were also chosen for the magnificent home, like custom-made furniture and custom rugs. It features a high-tech kosher kitchen (Ivanka converted to Judaism when she married Kushner), a daily maid and laundry service, a doorman and a gym. Behun dishes, “Ivanka had a budget. They’re not extravagant.”
The socialite-turned-fashion designer, who also is Executive Vice President of Development and Acquisitions in her father’s real estate business, says she wants her home to be a place for her family to kick back and relax.
“I want a home where kids can live happily and my husband can put his feet on the table or lie on the sofa watching TV and not be worried,” she told Elle Decor. “Nothing should be so precious that you can’t use it.” Elle Decor was the first magazine to get it published and now we remember it.
