Today let’s talk about two known stars in the interior designer world, they are not newbies on Room Decor Ideas, and it’s probably not the last time you will read about them. Ken Fulk and de Gournay create a fantastical wallpaper collection. The designer and the wallpaper company partnered at the Kips Bay show house in New York City.
Ken Fulk is known for his loved to entertain. He loves to throw parties and invite eclectic groups of friends for drinks, music, and take-out all served on perfect place settings. Ken always feels that dining rooms often feels staged, so he wanted to create something active and opinionated. A dining room where people came together to share meals and tell stories so this wallpaper was created to set the tone for a playful party, with the animals ready to participate.
Ken is an animal enthusiast and in his own home, he has a giant giraffe and other animals. So his first idea was to create a mural on the walls, with zoo animals that his imaginary always loved. In this collaboration was really easy since Hannah from de Gournay has similar aesthetic, which allowed them to instantly speak the same language and create these masterpieces.
Penguins, Monkeys, Parrots, and Flamingos are among the lush vegetation, and alongside wilder climes: zebra’s, Leopards, Tigers, and Giraffes – even a Polar Bear, stand balance with verdant Spring flowers.
Painted exquisitely by hand by de Gournay’s artisans, the scene combines a magnificent scenario across almost 30 panels: each take up to 150 hours to complete. All wallpapers are installed on a layer of silk that allows it to be peeled off, re-backed and later re-hung somewhere else so all the beautiful work is not lost.
